2006 Scholarship Recipient MaryRose Lansangan
|
Student Body President, MaryRose Lansangan, is the daughter of Soliven Sr. and Ester Lansangan. With a GPA of 4.1, MaryRose was ranked number 1 in her class of 251 students. MaryRose has stated that the driving force in her life is her desire to help others. As the Student Body President she took on the tremendous role of planning and organizing all the events for the entire school. Being in the top position at the school was not enough. She also took on the role of Leo Club/District 50 President. In this state level leadership position, she took on the responsibility of trying to motivate students to get more involved in school and community service. How did she do it? With hard work and total focused dedication. MaryRose work habits are contagious as she leads by example. Through her involvement and leadership, the AHS Leo Club had become the most popular club on campus and had been recognized as the Best Club in the state for the last 4 years. Other activities include National Honor Society (VP), Spanish Club, Honors & Awards Committee, Elections Committee, Math League, Blood Bank, Child Abuse Prevention, Cancer Foundation, Campus Beautification, Eye Glass Cleaning, Speeding Prevention w/HPD, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Youth Christian Life, Nursing Home Visitation, and more. In her desire to help others, MaryRose initiated a project to help students who take AP tests. She took a proposal to the PTSO to financially reimburse students who score a 3 or higher on the AP exams. The PTSO Board approved it and this program is currently in its second year. Other achievements include Leo Member of the Year, Outstanding Sophomore, finalist for the Ke Ali'i Kaulana Award, Harvard Book Aware recipient, UH Summer Scholar, UH Arts & Science Scholar Award, Leo District 50 Council President's Award. |
