Exciting... energetic... a beautiful voice.  Just a few words that have beenused to describe the singing style of Aiea alumnus, Sonya Mendez.  Born and raised in Aiea this versatile songstress is well-acquainted with the successes of international entertainment.  Her stage charisma and appeal has brought her performances in Acapulco, Hong Kong, Vancouver, Athens, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe, in addition to a lucrative 6 month contract aboard Princess Cruises.

Sonya still remains one of Honolulu's most sought-after singers because of her ability to sing music that ranges from smooth jazz, contemporary pop, Hawaiian favorites and broadway musicals.

Seen most recently as an anchor judge for the popular, locally-produced show, 'Hawaii Stars'... look for a fall release of her solo CD recording, called "Luau Cha Cha Cha".

News Update:  We like to report that Sonya released her newest CD called "Back to the Islands" on May 8, 2007.  The recording spans a wide range of styles, moods and tempos, all with a distinctive Latin influence.  A portion of the proceeds from her CD will go towards "Well of Hope", a foundation that Sonya co-founded.  "Well of Hope" was established to build a well for a tiny, remote Ethiopian village that she visited as part of the Rotary Club PolioPlus immunization drive.  Our best to you and your good work, Sonya!
